The aim of the course is to raise participant’s awareness of the rules and conventions of academic writing and speaking in English. The specific genre of writing and speaking reviewed and practiced during the course will be based upon the current research and teaching interests and duties of the participants. Possible written tasks will include preparing abstracts, conference proposals, calls for papers, research articles, theses, book reviews, poster presentations, lab reports, grant applications, and formal correspondence. Possible spoken tasks will include giving lectures and conference presentations. Specific communication skills covered during the course will be based upon a formal needs analysis conducted during the first lesson.
