Dear students,

on Wednesday, May 20, we'll have our field trip.

Here is the program:

8.00  Departure from Bozen/Bolzano (Kolping House).

9.30  Arrival at Gadria station

9.30 - 10.30 Sediment retention basins, debris flows monitoring and warning (with Dott. Macconi)

10.30 Departure from Gadria to Trafoi

11.15 Pit stop in Gomagoi (looking at Gurgl avalanche aftermath)

11.45 - 12.15 Hike from Trafoi to Drei Brunnen/Tre Fontane

12.15 - 13 Glacier/periglacial hazards and their interaction with fluvial processes (with Dott.  Marangoni)

13 – 13.30 Packed lunch at Drei Brunnen/Tre Fontane

13.30 – 14 Hike back to Trafoi

14 - 14.45 Drive to Sulden/Solda

14.45 - 15.30 Hazard mapping and 2014 flood/debris flow events (with Dott. Marangoni)

15.30 - 16.00 Drive down to Stilfser Brücke/Ponte Stelvio

16 - 16.15 Bedload transport monitoring

16.15 - 16.30 Drive to Tchengles/Cengles

16.30 - 16.45 Debris flow risk mitigation structures

16.45 – 18.15 Drive back to Bozen/Bolzano

 

You can find the kmz files of these locations on the Field trip section in Moodle.  We will give you on the bus a short document with the description of the different sites. Please notice that - as reported in the Syllabus - a report about the field trip will be part of the final assessment (those who are not able to come please contact me for an alternative job).

Please bring hiking shoes, water and food !

Hi,

I'm sorry to tell you we have to cancel the excursion tomorrow.

Weather is going to be really bad up there, with snow down to the valleys.

We are trying to find another possible day, I'll let you know !

so tomorrow we'll leave at 10.45 from the Kolping corner, return by 19.

The themes of tomorrow are:

- debris flow early warning systems

- uncertanties in hazard mapping

- flood event scenarios

- climate variations and change in hazards

- modern risk mitigation approaches
